Important notes:
- Do the gauge swatch. I went down to 6.5 mm and had plenty of yarn left, but it would have been close if I had used the 7 mm recommended by the pattern.
- Go up a hook size, at least, for the linen stitch rows.
- EVEN rows are right side. It’s easy to forget to turn or to pick it up after a while and start on the incorrect side.
- Here’s a good video from Coastal Crochet on contrasting color bobbles for row 26. (You can push the bobbles to either side.)
- Row 35/36 is a little not-obvious. The (gray) slip stitches will be on the wrong side, but then you work into them on row 36 which will push the top v of row 34 (cream) out.
- It’s kind of annoying to have to keep scrolling around pattern, so I made myself a little reference list (below). It would have been nice if the designer had included this info parenthetically instead of just “Change to color C”, or “Repeat row 15”, but I do appreciate that it’s a free pattern.
– Color A: Cream
– Color B: Grey
– Color C: Slate
– Color D: Whisper
– Row 2: dc
– Row 5: linen - sc, Ch1, sc
– Row 6: linen - sc, sc, Ch1, sc
– Row 15: hdc
– Row 23: sc

C finally chose a going-away-to-university blanket!!!
I got gauge exactly with a 6.5 mm hook. I’m using the same yarn/colors as recommended by the pattern.
I started off today and continued to row 10.

Just finished row 29. Note: EVEN rows are FRONT SIDE, ODD rows are BACK SIDE. I actually made the bobble stitches on the wrong side, but I decided to just poke them out the other way and pretend I didn’t since alternating colors on that row is kind of slow. (Normally, it’s odd rows that are front side.)

I finished row 48 last night, just before the second linen stitch section. This time, I will GO UP A HOOK SIZE FOR THE LINEN STITCH since it pulls in badly on the first section. Blocking may be enough or I may add a sc/rsc border on the two long sides to try to disguise it.

It’s Wednesday morning and I’ve just finished row 86 and I’m about to start the repeat of rows 5-70. It would be nice to have this finished by Friday afternoon when we go out to Amherst to visit the girls and celebrate B’s birthday with them, but that may be too ambitious.

All done! I finished it last night and steam blocked it this morning. (Steam blocking improved but did not completely straighten out the edges.) I did not add the tassels but I have enough yarn and I will if C would like them. I’m looking forward to giving it to her tonight!
The pattern was fine but I wish it had a few more notes (I added the ones I thought it should have to the top of these notes). I also don’t particularly like the rough side edges since this blanket is prone to unevenness -- the only note in the pattern was to watch your tension. I thought about adding a small border but don’t have enough yarn.
