I’ve never been very happy with turning ch. (I only use 2 not 3) For a while I’ve used a method where when slip stitching to end a row & using chains to start the next row, I slip st to ONE strand of the top ch tightly, then insert the hook under a second thread of the ch, draw up a loop. Draw through the 2 loops to make a dc (US sc), 1 ch completes a tr (US dc)-like st.
So when turning work to work back, have started using a similar st. I finish the row and turn without making turning ch. Insert hook into top of the first st just to left of where the loop comes out, draw up a loop & draw thru the 2 loops, 1 ch to complete. You’ll see the difference in the photo.
