I see that I have alluded above to his powers upon the violin. These were very remarkable, but as eccentric as all his other accomplishments. That he could play pieces, and difficult pieces, I knew well, because at my request he has played me some of Mendelssohn’s Lieder and other favourites. When left to himself, however, he would seldom produce any music or attempt any recognized air. Leaning back in his armchair of an evening, he would close his yes and scarp carelessly at the fiddle which was thrown across his knee. Sometimes the chords were sonorous and melancholy. Occasionally they were fantastic and cheerful. Clearly they reflected the thoughts which possessed him, but whether the music aided those thoughts, or whether the playing was simply the result of a whim or fancy, was more than I could determine. I might have rebelled against these exasperating solos had it not been that he usually terminated them by playing in quick succession a whole series of my favourite airs as a slight compensation for the rail upon my patience. - A Study In Scarlet, Sir Author Conan Doyle

I first saw Sherlock in the Sherlock movies staring Robert Downey Jr. Then, I saw BBC’s Sherlock, and I fell in love. It inspired me to read the books, and it made me fall even more. I actually prefer ACD version of Sherlock to BBC’s. I feel that the Unaired Pilot had the closest to the original. Don’t get me wrong, I love both versions, but I prefer ACD’s.
Anyways, you aren’t here to read what I prefer, you’re here for the pattern!

The pattern is free, and I found I had to make some changes to what is written:

  • In the pattern design, it states to do alternating panels of 20 rows of seed stitch and 10 rows of garter stitch. Then, in the garter stitch panel, it says to do 20 rows. Just do what it says in the design.
  • The seed stitch listed isn’t how you should actually do it. You will end up just having ribbing, and not a seed stitch. Just slip the first stitch, and follow what it says to do for Row 1. DO NOT FOLLOW ROW 2. If you follow Row 2 (purl 1, knit 1, etc.) you will end up doing ribbing, and not the seed stitch. My mother and I found this out, thank you mother.
  • Pattern I’ve been following is Seed stitch 20 rows, Garter for 10, always slip first stitch.
  • Each side will need roughly around 30 tassels to make the fringe. The pattern recommends using 40 all together, I’d say you can easily double that number and have it work out fine. I used roughly around 25-30 per side.

For a Smaller Version

Check out I Am Sherlocked to see what I did for a thinner/petite version.
