Cast on 162 sts with needles held double for 9 repeats, each repeat having 18 sts.
A repeat goes like this: k8, p3, k4, p3
The k8 sts are worked into 4x4 cables every 8th row
The k4 sts are worked into 2x2 cables every 4th row
After 10 times the 4x4 cable crossings (ca. 21cm) I improvised the rapid decrease.
Decrease goes like this:
round 1: p3tog between big and small cable (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 2: p3tog between the small and big cable (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 3: decrease the 2x2 cables into 1x1 cables by decreasing each cable arm with a k2tog and ssk, respectively (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 4: k2tog and ssk the remaining single p sts next to the small (1x1) cable into the 1x1 cable (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 5: k2tog all 1x1 cables (decr of 9 sts/round), k the remaining st for all subsequent rounds
round 6: decrease the 4x4 cables into 3x3 cables by decreasing each cable arm on the outside with a k2tog and ssk, respectively (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 7: as round 6 from 3x3 to 2x2 cables (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 8: as round 6 from 2x2 to 1x1 cables (decr of 18 sts/round)
round 9: k3tog the remaining 2 cable sts with the remaining 1 k sts from round 5 (decr of 18 sts/round)
9 sts remain (1 per repeat)
Cut yarn and sew through remaining 9 sts.
