With 5 mm needles, cable cast on 50 sts.
6 rows of 1 x 1 twisted rib in the round (knit through back of loop, purl one and repeat around), followed by knitting 37 rows in the round.
To decrease 5 sts on next round, (k2 tog, k8) and repeat brackets to beginning of round. 45 sts.
Knit a row.
To decrease 5 sts on next round, (k2tog, k7) and repeat brackets to beginning of round. 40 sts.
Knit the following rows until there are 50 rows of knitting on top of the first 6 rows of twisted rib, ie 56 rows in total.
5 rows of twisted rib, followed by casting off with a 6 mm needle in twisted rib (only bring yarn to the front before a purl st).
(I did 6 rows of ribbing on the first one and after casting off in twisted rib realised that that made 7 rows of twisted rib, ooops.)
Gauge about 4 1/2 stitches to an inch horizontally, aimed at an approximate slouchy 11 inch circumference but they turned out a lot bigger so reduced number of sts towards the end to 40 for the ankle area and the fit is much better. If I make again, I’d still start out with more than 40 sts for upper leg but go with 40 for the ankle area.
