To master the pick up sticks do this first then follow the instructions belowlink text
After many tries I got this. I master the pickup sticks with no problems. What I had trouble with was what rows to put the green weft and what rows to put the gold weft.
So here are Jeen’s instruction revised that my brain gets it:
Alternate 8 green and 8 gold with the pinwheel sequence. End with 8 green followed by 3 plain weave picks of gold.
PINWHEELS PATTERN
With Green weft:
Pick 1: Heddle Up. O4, U4
Pass the pick-up stick through the green ends on the right. Pass the pick-up stick over 4 ends and
under 4 ends on the next gold stripe, the next green stripe, and the next gold stripe. Next, pass it through the shed of the last green stripe. Turn the pick-up stick on its side. Pass the shuttle with the green yarn through the shed
Pick 2: Heddle Down. O3, U1, O1, U3

Pass the pick-up stick through the shed of the first stripe. Pass it over 3, under 1, over 1, under 3 in the next three stripes. Pass through the shed of the last stripe. Turn the pick-up stick on its side. Weave..

For the next three stripes pass the pick-up stick under 3, over 1, under 1, over 3.

Pick 8: Heddle Down. U4,O4
Pass it under 4, over 4 in the next three stripes.
NOW REPEAT FROM STEP ONE WITH GOLD YARN
TIPS:
Work closer to the fell line (last pick of weaving) to make it easier to pass the pick-up stick under and over or over and under ends in the center three stripes.
From Jeen:
Pinwheels require 9 ‘blocks.’
The center block of the 9 in the center
of the pinwheel.
The other blocks are the ‘swirl’ blocks.
So, you alternate the warp dark, light, dark
or light, dark, light.
Then you weave dark, light, dark
or light, dark, light.
The dark yarn in the center makes a pinwheel
that ‘pops’ the most.
Another key to weaving pinwheels on the
rigid heddle loom is to ‘test’ the heddle you
are going to use when you get the warp ready.
Picks 4 & 5 are created with the heddle so
the first end of pinwheel stripes has to be
down and thus you put the heddle in the
position that allows that to happen.
If 4 finds the heddle needs to be down then
it is in the up position for 5.
If it’s up for 4 then it has to be down for 5.
Then you work backwards to see which shed
to begin it:
If heddle needs to be Up in pick 4 then it is
down for 3
up for 2
down for 1.
If the heddle needs to be Down in pick 4 then
it is up for 3
down for 2
up for 1.
Lots of my projects already give heddle position
but it’s good to know this just in case you create
your own project.
The little picture shows lovely yarn and pinwheel!
Yes, what it takes to get our brain to understand
and do something is important!
If people on Rav ask me a question and I can’t
see a picture or video in my brain I have trouble
trying to answer!
I know what you mean about doing what it
takes to grab the info!
You’re very welcome!
