Notes

I have added 2 new antique vintage 8” looms to my collection. They are so nostalgic to weave on. My goal for these looms is to do samples and more thinking drafts on these looms. In between I would like to teach others about weaving.

The loom has a book with Atwater Structo patterns.

I have some downloadables from interweave. Blockweave, overshot and would like to get summer and winter. All of these require tabby between each pick.

Pattern 121 Honey Suckle is my first. I kept making mistakes with the warping and had to heddle again and again. I think because the loom is new to me and I do not have anything labeled with the shafts.

I am also cleaning up my 8 shaft. It was not too rusty so I was happy about that. The levels work great.

The loom levers are nice to work with and do not hurt my fingers like a bigger loom would. I tried a leclerc and it killed my figures to push the levers down.

Everything is soooo cute with these looms. This is my new adventure.

My mighty wolf has big projects that take time so these looms I can try samples and go from there if I want to make a particular draft on my 8 shaft.

8/15: I took my 8 shaft apart and I am now soaking in a rust removal solutions. This stuff is suppose to be gentle. Emmy you would be so proud of me. As long as my brain gets the concept on how to put it back together I am good to go.

My 4 shaft is doing a more intricate pattern. The warping of the heddles I just kept making errors. I wanted the heddles perfect. Now I am happy with my progress. This loom came with 400 heddles. They are in good shape but hitting the rust cleaner stuff too.

The pattern below is Atwater Honeysuckle. Really neat to work on old patterns and old tools.

I am using this product: link text to take the rust off the loom

8/15: Loom all cleaned up. Brand new heddles brand new 8 dent reed. The other 15 dent reed has no rust on it which I soaked over night in rust removal solution. I also took 400 heddles off this loom and they came out well too with the gentle rust remover. I have more than enough heddles to last me a life time. What more can a Structo Weaver want. Hubby put the shafts back. That was hard for me to do that fine motor skill stuff.

8/16: Honeysuckle Draft B Atwater Green Weft Lightweight 4

8/18: Dressed Lightweight 8
8/20: Light weight 8 is now Lightweight 6. I should have read the pattern better. Moving of shafts and heddles grrrr. BUT…she is officially warped and ready to weave. The waffle weave looks good. Now to try out all the different colors and what to pick for my towels.

9/1: Lightweight 4 twill scarf with sock yarn is off the loom. The loom is awaiting Meanwhile Lightweight 8 has the sampling on it. I tried every color except lavender.
Lavendar done. Pull out a tan and finished off for a tea towel. Fulled now deciding what colors to use for my bathroom towels.

9/13: Warped Lightweight 8 with 4 shafts only to do a cowl with sock weight yarn.

9/13: Warped lightweight 4 and did some twill patterns to present as a class

10/16: Playing with twill and binding on Lightweight 8
11/13: Pinwheel Belt on LW 8 using 4 shafts
11/21: Pinwheel belt off loom ready to full
