This project was a blast! I’m sad I finished it. The rainbow chevron stripes were pure potato-chip knitting. I stayed up way too late on more than one night while knitting them.

I made this for a child who is big and tall for her age, but very much a little girl at heart. In fact, she’s a rainbow unicorn fairy and I hope she loves this sweater!

This pattern does not waste words, which is something I enjoy. There isn’t any handholding, but you get all the info you need. I recommend reading it over pretty carefully before diving in.

The collar rolled badly, which is to be expected from a plain stockinette edge. I thought I’d just block it out and steam it if necessary, but I decided I wanted a better solution. To fix it, I picked up stitches along the cast on edge from the WS (this way the CO edge becomes the turning row), starting at the “v”, worked 8 rows back and forth in stockinette, working increases as dictated by the existing shape, then turned it down and and fastened it to the inside with a 3-needle bind off. I’m very happy with how it looks.

The hem flipped badly too, so I took out the entire seed stitch border, worked it again on smaller needles, changed to the neckband color, worked one row plain, then a picot row, then a turned hem. I absolutely love how this looks! Definitely worth the effort.

I wish I’d had a solid peach color! The one variegated stripe stands out too much. But I still love it.

Mods:
worked German short rows instead of w&t (I hate w&t). They gave a nice clean finish to the short row border.

Used paired increases to add gores to the post-chevron section all the way around, making it into a swingy trapeze shape for a girl who likes to twirl. Went pretty long with the length, too.

Worked an inch of seed stitch at the bottom before the turned hem.

Made short sleeves that end with the last color stripe, finishing with a seed stitch border and Jeni’s.

Worked a turned edge on the neck opening, the length (width?) of the first stripe.

Worked a turned hem at the bottom.
