First of all, Cake the Cat is a character from the animated show Adventure Time with Finn and Jake! She is from the gender-swapped episode called “Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake.” I went as Fionna from Halloween and made my entire costume (see my knitted/felted hat) besides the skirt and shoes.

I started knitting a few versions of Cake back in the summer, but frogged each one because I wasn’t satisfied with how the stitches were looking from knitting intarsia in the round. But it was good practice, so I started this final version of Cake on a long flight home from Europe, and finished on Halloween morning! Perfect.

It was definitely hard using a new method of knitting for me while also making up the pattern as I go along, but excepting the yellow ear chunk I am very pleased.

-The fingertips were done like i-cord glove fingers, then felted so they stuck together more.

-The arms, legs, tails, and ears were knitted off of stitch-holders so they grew fluidly out of the body.

-The pupils and nose/mouth were quickly embroidered on while at work so she was finished in time for our Halloween party!
