I’m making this shawl as a test with Vivid Fiber Arts yarn!
1/14/2015: After starting another pattern that wasn’t really working for me, I decided to frog it and start “Goldberry” instead.
1/16/2015: This pattern is working up so quick and the yarn is dreamy. Beautiful colors and very easy to work with, not too slick in the hands. Added the project to the Gorgeous Gradients group new year create a long. :)
1/17/2015: We’ve got color change, people!!! It’s the little things that make me happy. :D
1/24/2015: Almost finished! I would have been done sooner but I had to frog 10+ rows at one point because I missed a stitch on an earlier row. And yes, it was as painful as it sounds. lol
I need to weigh my yarn but I’m coming to the end of the pattern and feel like I have way too much yarn left to go. Not sure how that happened. lol I might add a couple of extra repeats, no way I’m not using all the yarn I can on this shawl. lol
1/27/2015: Definitely do NOT have too much yarn. In fact, started to play yarn chicken! I’ve got 3 more rows left and am willing the yarn to be enough. LOL
1/30/2015: Blocking!
Pre-block measurements:
Tip to Tip: 25 inches
Spine: 20.5 inches
Across the Top: 35 inches
Post-block measurements:
Tip to Tip: 28 inches
Spine: 24 inches
Across the Top: 38.5 inches
I chose to do the bigger Goldberry size and was THISCLOSE to having just the right amount to complete it. But in the end, I had to drop two rows. I also did not do the sc rows along the top as I wanted to keep the gradient going and not have a row of blue on top of the pink.
I still need to weigh the yarn I have left!
In regards to the pattern, it is just amazing. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. This is the perfect shawl to hook up if you want something that looks fancy but is easy to do. I would make another in a heartbeat.
In regards to the yarn: It’s gorgeous and I almost want to frog my shawl to make another one from the other color direction. lol The weight is lovely, it’s very easy to work with. There’s just enough sheen to shine but not too much. The colors are fantastic.
In my opinion, the best thing about Vivid Fiber Arts and their line of yarns (besides the gorgeous array of colors) is that they’ve truly taken crochet into consideration. They’ve thought about what crocheters need in a gradient yarn and I think it’s safe to say that they deliver. I have never been so excited to add a brand of yarn to my “collection”. I want to buy it all and sit in the dark like Gollum whispering, “My preciouses…”
Notes to myself from Amy @ VFA:
“Washing instructions:
Cold rinse. You can use Soak or any kind of wash made for delicates, but just use a little bit bc any kind of residue does dim the gleam of the tencel. I usually use a little bit of fabric softener with cotton, but I haven’t found that the tencel really needs it bc it’s really soft to begin with.“
