Finished update: and it’s too big. It’s Phoebe’s hat now and I’ll have to knit another, smaller, one.

Mods/Notes:

• Made for a 7yo, but working with slightly lighter weight yarn and US 6s, so cast on 96 sts
• 3 rows moss stitch either side of rivets
• 27 rows brown before beginning decreases

Horns:

• Used a combination of sar’s and KnitNannyRuth’s directions and made a few changes

• Knit on smaller needles with Aran weight for a denser fabric

• Used German short rows as I prefer them

• Working in st. st. throughout, work 1st 8 rows in gold (leaving a long enough tail to sew horn to hat), then switch to cream

• Short rows 15, 17, 19: k18, w&t, p11, w&t, k to end (working wraps as you come to them)

• Decrease rows (begin on row 21 and work every knit row): k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1; work until 4 sts, ending on a purl row; finish off by drawing yarn through rem sts (leave a long enough tail to sew the mattress st seam from the point of the horn down)

• Draw up the mattress st seam tightly enough to give some shape to the horn
