After many practice swatches working short rows, I realized that it wasn’t the wrapping and turning that had me stymied. It was picking the wraps up on the way back that I just couldn’t seem to get the hang of.

Luckily, more internet searching led me to a wonderful discovery: Alice Yu’s fantastic tutorial for Shadow Wraps. I would highly recommend checking it out. The technique is easy, reliable and has made me a fan of short rowing!

I don’t know if it was because Shadow Wraps involve knitting into the stitch in the row below, but I was getting a couple of jaggy stitches in the color changes between the garter rows and the stockinette sections. I modified the pattern slightly by adding an additional row of stockinette before and after each short row ridge. This also spaced the garter rows out a bit which I really liked.

I improvised the garter stitch border. It’s still not the best, but after frogging the ripple side twice, I’ve finally finished!
