Notes

Love the kits so much but I have too much yarn in my stash and need to use stash yarn. Love the look of both of the main kits (blue-greens and autumnal).

Choose five colors of fingering weight yarn to knit this beautiful semi-circular shawl. This pattern is knit seamlessly from the top center down to the chevron border. Simple sections of stripes and slip stitches alternate between the multi-color slip stitch sections. You only work with one color at a time, resulting in a mesmerizing and elegant pattern. The final chevron section decorates the border followed by an I-cord bind off. Select five high contrast colors for a bold statement or try five soft shades for a more subtle shadow effect.

Finished Measurements: 92″ / 234cm wingspan length, 28″ / 71cm from CO to BO edge measured along the center. Measurements taken after blocking.

Yarn: Fingering weight

Yardage: Color A - 340yds / 311m
Color B - 340yds / 311m
Color C - 400yds / 366m
Color D - 380yds / 347m
Color E - 380yds / 347m

My Yarn Options:

Color A- Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light + Tweed in Filtered Day Dreams (beige), starting weight = 106g
Color B- Hawari Bazaar Lunar in Firestarter (orange variegated), starting weight = 103g
Color C- Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light + Tweed in Glazed Pecan (gold). Starting Weight = 109g
Color D - Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply in Dark Andromeda (red). Starting weight = 118g
Color E- Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light + Tweed in Sinfully Decadent (brown). Starting weight = 108g

End of section 3 yarn weights:
A = (MTML Tweed Filtered Day Dreams) = 91g, used 15g
B= Hawari Lunar in Firestarter = 88g, used 15g
C = Glazed Pecan = 99g, used 10g
D = Dark Andromeda = 108g, used 10g
E = Sinfullly Decadent = 99g, used 10g

End of Section 4 (uses only Colors C and D)
Color C weight: 77g, used 22g
Color D weight: 83g, used 25g

Set aside knitting at end of November until 1/14/22 because of advent knitting and Christmas.

For the final chevron section, I will have to change the color order. My colors B orange and D, red, are too close in color and do not have a lot of contrast so I think the design would be lost using those colors together. I am considering using color B, orange and color A, beige, as they have nice contrast and hopefully there will still be enough yarn left for this chevron section. And I would like to do the bind off in a third color and am considering red as long as the row before it is the beige and would give a nice final pop of color or if not then maybe brown or gold. i might not have enough of the gold as it is the color most used in this shawl.

After saying all of this above and rethinking as I knitted that last colorwork section, I ended up using the orange variegated (color B) and red (color D) as recommended per pattern. As you can see, the chevron rows are able to be seen but is a bit bright. I had the most of these two colors to use for this section and needed the yarn since the rows in this last chevron section section are over 1000 stitches per row. I ended up running out of red and had to use some of this yarn from my stash to finish the last row of red and was so happy it wasn’t that noticeable and a good replacement.

I bound off the shawl using color C, gold and used the first bind off, as I really didn’t see the second bind off option until after I had done a lot of this bind off option.
I absolutely love the look of this shawl with each stitch, liking it more as I knit it and love the slip stitch color-work sections and how doing those three times gave some great continuity to the design.
Again, I did the first bind off instructions and actually ran out of gold yarn with only about 150 stitches left to bind off. Fortunately, I had some other Madelinetosh singular-stranded yarn in a similar color in my stash and was able to use a very small amount to finish the bind off. Again, so blessed to have it match the original yarn color so well and it was already in my stash. https://www.ravelry.com/people/KnitbyMoonbeams/stash/tosh...

I only had small amounts left of colors A, B and E left at the end (see below) and used all of colors C and D and had to find another alternate to finish the last row needed on each of those colors.

Amounts left at end:
Color A (filtered daydreams) = 20g
Color B (orange) = 11g
Color E (sinfully decadent brown) = 12g

It is a very big shawl, bigger than I thought it would be and very heavy. Measurements after blocking are 90 inches across the top (wingspan) by 32 inches from cast on to blocked edge in the middle.
