After studying the pattern I had written up for Hazel’s mittens (child large) I discovered that those had been knit on size 3 needles, not the size 4 I started with here. So I knit a second Adult Large on the size 3 needles, incorporating several changes that I thought would work out. So now Franklin has two mittens that can be worn together, but I plan to make him a third and retire the one on size fours. Changes:

• Cuff is now longer by an inch.
• Number of stitches on cuff and body are both increased.
• There is one more round of thrumming (four more rounds including the plain knit rounds) before starting the thumb.
• The thumb is slightly larger.
• There is an extra set of four rounds before the tip.

Knitting some thrummed mittens in Olivia, which as a non-superwash yarn does a great job of gripping the thrums. Getting the pattern written up in adult large. I think it will be available in adult large and small/medium plus child large. This pattern will go in a kit from my daughter Meg of Twisted Fiber Art.

I picked Haunting as the colorway without much thought - the thrums are not as much contrast in color as in other colorways, but I think it looks great anyway. The yarn is in long repeat stripes. We’ll have to evaluate how that works out once a pair is done.
