This bag was a project to get me in the mood for our vacation. I had planned on taking pictures before I left, but had no time. I just threw it in the suitcase, and dug it out again once we landed on the beach.
It’s a quick knit, inspired by a scarf pattern by Joelle Hoverson. I simply knit a rectangular shape, sewed the sides together and added a strap.
Having used it for a bit now, I would either make the strap a bit shorter, as it stretches quite a bit, or sew some backing onto it, it make it keep its shape. I will probably also make is slightly smaller. I have the bad habit of packing too many things into a bag, so the bigger the bag, the more stuff I drag with me…
Here’s how I made it:
CO 44 stitches
Row 1: K1, k3, yo, sk2p, yo, repeat from to last stitch, k1
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: K1, yo, sk2p, yo, k3, repeat from to last stitch, k1
Row 4: purl.
These 4 rows create the pattern. Knit for 26 inches.
BLOCK
I crochet the sides together with right sides facing so that the seam is on the inside. Once the sides have been joined, I picked up 8 stitches (4 on each side of the seam), and knitted in garter stitch. You can make the strap as long as you wish.
Fill with a good book, sunscreen and a bottle of water, and you are ready!!
