Did not bother with gauge as this is a shawl, and I am simply going with the suggested needle size.
Cast on during knit-night with my knit-buddies. We are all very excited about this particular project. For most of us it is the first time working with several colors.
I got through the first few rows, and I am already filled with doubt and have tons of questions.
Looking through project notes. It seems there are a lot of people (one of which the Yarn Harlot, and who am I to doubt her expertise??) suggesting to do a YO between the first and second stitch of each row, then dropping the YO on the way back. Simply to create a bit of extra room at the edge of the shawl.
This seems like a sensible idea to me, so I am going to try it.
So now I have 2 beginnings of the shawl, one with the YO’s and one without, and the difference is not huge, but the edge certainly looks neater with the YO’s and I can see how later on, when I have 400 stitches to the edge it’ll look better. So here we go!

30-July, time to add a second color!!!
I was going to wait for knitnight to start the third color, but my fingers were itching, so I ventured out on my own. A little confused by instructions on row 9. What does it mean? What is the set-up row and what the regular row?
Ok, I think I figured it out, set up row is: k2, M1l, k20, wrap & turn.
Off we go, I hope this works.
1Aug- KNIT NIGHT- Just realized in talking to the girls that I am doing this incorrectly! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Have to rip out 40 rows. Should have checked the page with the instructions as to how to do the Wrap and turn. You would think that I have learned from my mistakes, as I have done this before.
4 Aug- I have finally figured it out, and I am doing the wraps properly. I have also figured out that in The Short Rows part of the shawl after having completed rows 9-20, you have increased a total of 15 stitches, so that’ll help me keep my count.
I now have repeated rows 9-20 4 times, 4 more to go.
5 Aug- one more repeat done
7 Aug- I only have 2 more repeats to do, but I am short 2 stitches!!! Will just add them at this point somewhere….does not really show.
14 Aug- things are progressing a lot slower now, as the rows are so looooong. But I finished the color portion last night, so now I can work on the border. Probably won’t happen before the weekend anyway.
22 Aug- it’s done! finally! it’s all done.
It is a lot narrower then I expected. Hopefully it’ll be fixed by blocking.
16 Nov- Finally got some blocking wires, and worked my magic on the shawl. I did manage to widen it a bit, and I am happy with how it looks.
