Dec 21: not sure how sizing will work. I think this yarn is larger than the silk I used in Knitwitch Summer Top. The thing with lace is it seems to stretch out in length or width as needed. Will just start and see what happens.
Dec 23: Too big. Ripped out and cast on with 300 sts - the second biggest size.
Dec 26: Seems to be working out.
Dec 29: Now have first vertical repeat of 34 rounds complete on 300 stitches. Unblocked and spread out on 2 needles work is 42” so tension is something like 7.14 sts per inch. Row tension seems to be 10 rounds per inch. Tricky to measure with scalloped edge. Will check again after next vertical repeat.
Jan 1: Second vertical repeat complete. I put a second life line through 32nd round and it is easier to determine ro6w gauge. My 32 rounds are 3.25” so 9.85 rounds per inch. Seems right as I was getting 10 rounds per inch with 2.25m needle and silk yarn which seems to be a hair smaller. While spread on two needles I tried on and it is not tight at hips or bust.
Yarn note: This Blue Heron EMC is giving me fabulous stitch definition, and it never tries to split.
Jan 5: Almost finished 3rd repeat. I switched to a different dye lot that has more blue and less purple. I like it better and will work top front first this time using bluier version.
Jan 12: I soaked the bottom 12 of 15 inches to get an idea of blocked gauge. This cotton is not as stretchy as the silk. I think I will do a 6th vertical repeat. This will result in a top about 27” long. Much longer than my usual but I am loving the fabric so much I think more will be more.
Jan 16: movig along. Working front first as I may have to use some of more purple dye lot to complete project. If so prefer purple on back and blue on front. Now working my way up right front
Jan 19: Fronts done. Have 58g of bluey lot left for back. Likely not enough for 3 vertical repeats Will weigh after one repeat to check and intermingle some purple as required.
Jan 21: Knitting of body complete. I worked in a little of the purple dye lot into first 2 of 3 vertical repeats and worked last repeat with the more blue dye lot. Still have enough blue for neck band.
Jan 22: Attached both shoulders with 3-needle bind-off.
Neck band: There were 70 open stitches at the back and 30 at front to pick up. As my neckline is deep I wanted a firm and not too big neckband so it hopefully wont’t gape. I followed pattern directions and picked up 3 stitches for every 4 stitches at sides of front neck. I knit 2, knit 2 tog across back and front sections. I worked first round in knit around. I worked second row in purl, also purling 2 tog 4 times at each side of lower front neck to reduce overall neck further. I knit around 3rd band and knit two together twice at front and twice at back. I cast off in purl all the way around. In total there were 157 stitches around before extra stitch reductions. Neck seemed OK when I tried on unblocked.
It is now blocked out and I am optimistic of a successful project. When it dries tomorrow we shall see….
