After Hobbii decided to completely change the quality and gauge of their Cotton Kings cones, I am stuck with a large supply of ‘leftovers’ that are way too large to be called leftovers (even complete cones), but not enough for the projects i usually test for AdO Crochet, so i will have to find other projects for them.
And the is definitely still a lot of crochet besides Interlock mosaic , so I just started fumbling around with this design I’ve had on my ‘someday I’ll make’-list, until the off-white runs out. No idea how large it will become; I have around 100-150 grams. And plenty of lilac and purple, so those will come back in other projects.
All the yarn used is Cotton Kings Cone’s, but don’t bother trying to order; under the same name you will get a thicker, stiffer yarn in paler colours if you order them now, and will need a bigger hook (hence even more yarn). So I won’t bother listing them either.
The pattern of the shadow comes from a YouTube video I saw ages ago, and could not find again . But it is very easy, and works with a flat join-as-you-go,

Found the video/pattern again -and relieved to see I did it correctly ;-)

Timed full motiv, from starting the magic loop , joining on two sides, until weaving in the ends and stretching it in shape, take almost 18 minutes. To. Leave room for errors. And mistakes, say 20 for calculating purposes.
By writing and measuring the yarn, i would end up with a 5x5 /6x4 motives baby blanket ; 50x75 cm or 62,6x62,5. I might go on the look for kind of matching white/cream yarn ;-) Oh,plus 7 cm length for the top row and a bit around for the border.

My calculations were spot-on; I estimated I could make 25-27 white diamonds, and after 25 of them, I had exactly 10 grams (2 diamonds) left. Can’t make a row or if that anymore, so this is it.
Made a very plain hdc border, following the points at top and bottom by making 3hdc Inthe top stitch and crocheting 3 together in the V’s. Unfortunately the work pulls in a little, so I did not really get straight side borders. But it is just a leftover /test project anyway (and will probably be used as a towel) so it does not really matter.
