Notes

We invented this idea as a hat for sleeping or to hide under when flying. The split in the rim folds down on either side of the nose. I knit this from the top down, so that I could squeeze out every bit of yarn. I only had to snip off a few inches.

I reversed the design from the pattern in order to start at the top. It has a K3P2 rib with 10 repeats. The band around the ears features about an inch of K1P1 ribbing because this yarn is so stretchy that it seemed rather loose and I wanted it to stay in place.

When I blocked it the hat grew and grew! It looked quite long. I put it in the drier and it shrank some, but I put it back in for the entire cycle.

JR said it slips off and he had to wear a hood to sleep in it in bed. So, not a perfect success. Probably the yarn needs to be firmer and less fluid/stretchy. It should still work great for airplane redeyes since you’d sit up more while wearing it…

AJ has adopted it.
