Notes

This OnLive yarn is knitting up soft and plushy. It also has narrow stripes that the bumps emphasize nicely. It is a different effect than the more random short shots of color in the original pattern’s yarn. Lucky choice.

I also chose the medium size because I think that the wavy part will stretch more than the stockinette and I like my socks to fit more snug than slouchy.

Noting mistake--I got off count on the first few rounds on the toe increases, so I just went with it--but I need to remember to do it again for the matching sock. Skipped the middle increase instead that was at the 17 stitch mark.

Also, the toe is a more steeply pointed shape than my usual toe increase so will see how that works out with my foot.

The braid up the sides splits to become a single pair of knit stitches at the bottom of the gusset and a cable twist along the top edge. When knitting up the heel they work their way back together and become a braid again up the sides of the ankle. It’s a very cute and clever design touch!

Note to self: Got to the end of the gusset and set sock aside, which meant I lost my train of thought and messed up the heel increase when I came back to it. Had to work out the logic for the bottom. The first portion of the heel increase, before it turns the corner and begins to use up the gusset stitches, begins with knitting across all the bottom stitches, through the p2, then k1 and wrap the 2nd knit stitch. Work back and forth matching each side and wrapping one less stitch at each side until 10 stitches are left, ending with purling the wrong side.

Pattern order
Rnd 1 sole …k2c4f… fan pattern … C4bk2…
Rnd 2 sole match stitch above, knit, match stitches
Rnd 3 sole … c4bk2… knit …k2c4f…
Rnd 4 sole match stitch above, knit, match stitches

I’m using 4dpns. Set up ankle with these stitches:
Needle 1. 1st half back ankle, first repeat fan pattern
Needle 2. 2nd repeat fan pattern, braid section
Needle 3. 1st half front ankle, first half fan repeat
Needle 4. 2nd half fan repeat, braid section

I’m having trouble getting back to working in the round.

First question—why doesn’t the stitch count for the front half match the back half?

Is there a missing row in pattern? Row 30 includes braid cables crossing and so does Row 31. There needs to be a row of plain knit between those. I think that Row 31 should have the braid section knit and purl in pattern and the braid crossovers need to move to the 4th Row… ?

2nd sock--I keep getting lost. Probably just me! I am at the beginning of the heel gusset--first row has a make one increase to start separating the braid into the single row and the twist. The next row mentions purl 6. There is no place where there are 6 purls in a row. I am thinking I will just keep increasing one on each side and see how that works. (I am making the medium size gusset).

New note to self--do the toe for one sock, then the other and keep alternating sections or else do 2 at once in order to avoid these problems again.
