I can’t remember when I finished this sweater. I was using yarn from my stash, so it’s a mix of everything acrylic. I wanted a nice warm sweater and this does the job.
8/8/2010- I put the following in the discussion group, (http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/tunisian-crochet/1001502/1-25), however, I thought I would duplicate it here:
“It is done in rows from the bottom up. Start with the hip measurement and when you reach the underarm, divide into three sections. Two front and one back (front being half the size of the back). Attach the sleeves. I worked the sleeve colors in the opposite direction of the body colors to maintain the “pattern”. (I was “stash busting” at the time and that is why it is so many different colors).
My entrelac squares are 7 TSS, 5 rows (just like the afghan pattern).
The seam will be at the top of the arm. Leave room for the neck space and attach the hood. Finish off the cuffs, bottom edge and around the front and hood with knit ribbing- or you can try the TKS but be aware that it will not stretch.
Sorry I don’t have all this written up, but this is how I approach everything- I think about how I want to construct it and not about stitch count. Good luck.“
8/15/2010- Due to the interest in this sweater I have started another one. I am using a size K crochet hook and Vanna’s Choice: Sapphire. I originally bought 8 skeins and at this time am at the end of the sixth skein. (I purchased three more skeins in anticipation of needing more) This is an adult size, (fits approximately a size 16). I also am creating two small front pockets in this sweater (yellow yarn markers).
As previously stated the sweater is constructed in rows. At the end of each row I break off and start the next row from the beginning. I don’t turn the work around. I don’t use a “foundation chain” in my work, I work each motif on its own to my desired length. I have not documented that. Suffice it to say that if you can make the full diamond, you should have no problem making any portion of that diamond.
At this point I’ve separated the front sections from the back. Both front sections are finished and I’m about half way through the back. Next I will begin one of the sleeves .
8/16/2010: Pics of beginning sleeve added.
8/21/2010: Just a few rows left on one sleeve and then work begins on the hood. I’ve pinned the sweater together to show how it has all come together. The opening is wide because of the edge that will be created once the hood is attached. I will probably add a zipper- but am still considering buttons or some alternative closure. (Once this sleeve is done I will have used 9 skeins).
