I modified the pattern because I needed a last minute Christmas gift that would work up quickly. This hat took 3.2 ounces of of worsted weight yarn which was just over one skein of Premier Ever Soft which come in 3 oz. skeins.

5.0mm (H) hook, worsted weight yarn

My Gauge: 4” = 10 rows and 16 stitches (back loop hdc)
I crochet on the loose side so if you crochet more tightly go up a hook size or two or adjust the initial chain.

Modified pattern as follows: (I basically extended the hdc section to be long enough to fold up instead of making the brim in slip stitch which would have been more time consuming.)
Beg chain: 46
Row 1: Sl st 6, sc 8, hdc 31 ch 2, turn
All subsequent rows in BACK LOOP ONLY
Row 2: hdc 31, sc 8, sl st 3, leave 3 stitches unworked, ch 1 turn
Row 3: sl st 3, sc 8, hdc 31, ch 2, turn
Row 4: hdc 31, sc 8, sl st 6 (first 3 sl sts in sl sts from prev. row, next 3 sl sts in unworked sl sts from row 2), ch 1 turn
Row 5: sl st 6, sc 8, hdc 31, ch 2, turn
Repeat rows 2- 5 to desired width. Mine was a total of 49 rows (row 1 plus rows 2-5 twelve times)
Finished measurements (unstretched) for a size small men’s hat that does not fit too snug: Length from top of hat down center to bottom:10.5”
Circumference at the bottom: 21 “
