I wanted to make a hat to fit a teen and since I crochet on the loose side, I followed directions for the child hat so I my gauge would be closer to matching the teen/adult size. (With J hook I crocheted rounds 1-8 then continued to round 11. Texture weave section, crocheted rounds 1-4 plus two additional rounds. Switched to I hook and crocheted first brim option.
Hat was still a little big, so next time, for this size, I would start with an I hook for the hat and go down to an H hook for the brim if needed.)

This pattern was well written, easy to follow and as titled has a texture weave that stands out even with a variegated yarn.
