I found it impossible to get gauge even going down to a 3.5 hook. In the back I had to sew the edges under about 2 inches on each side even though I made less stitches across than the size called for. I would say I crochet with average tension, maybe even a little on the tighter side, so I believe the pattern might be the problem. I don’t know if others have had the same problem. My granddaughter found a photo of the top and I tracked down the pattern. I wasn’t a fan of the pattern from the get go when I noticed how off the gauge seemed to be. I wanted to please my granddaughter, so I persevered, Lol.
I sent to her to try on, now I’m waiting to get it back to add the cap sleeves.

Was waiting for granddaughter to bring it back so I could add sleeves. She never brought it, so it won’t have the cap sleeves, but that’s ok.
