I am officially insane! Just like last year and the solar eclipse, I couldn’t resists casting on for a memorial shawl after seeing the “Super Blue Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse” on January 31st, 2018!
It was amazing! After dithering back and forth, I just could not find a “blood moon” red I liked!
On the other hand, I loved the idea of a “blue moon” shawl! And I had a fabulous mixed blue yarn in my stash!
Perfect!
Jan. 31st- Started with size 2 dpn’s.
Feb. 4th- Moved to the circulars on round 34, and my sister approved the “look”. This surprised me, as you really can’t see the pattern at all! She said she doesn’t care, she likes the “look!” Okay, onward then!
Feb. 6th- Moved to size 3’s on round 36
Mar. 13th- 1st ball ended in the middle of round 114.
Mar. 20th- 2nd ball ended in the middle of round 164.
Mar. 31st- Have 27 grams of the 3rd ball left before starting the edge.
April 2nd- 3rd ball ended at the start of round 204.
Notes:
As I have a lot of yarn, and as I want as big a Moon as I can get, I made some changes. On round 157 I p8, “yo, p1, yo, p17, “ around. (Adding 2 stitches per pattern repeat, 48 stitches) Then on round 158 I knit the yo’s through the back loop. (Making a new stitch that looks quite a lot like a purl)
This let me make each pattern repeat 2 rounds longer, and 2 stitches wider, 48 stitches more around, and able to add repeats without worry about the blocking becoming to tight.
After round 174 I have 82grams of the 3rd ball left. I worked one more repeat with increase, so this added 48 more stitches around and 20 more rounds. (Now there is 25 grams left.)
Changed to ball 4 just so the slight color change will be all in one repeat and unseeable (22 grams of the 3rd ball left)
After the 5th repeat, (22 more rounds) I have 44 grams of the 4th ball left.
I kind of Jerryriged the edge. After the edge, (8 rounds) I have 15 grams of the 4th ball left.
After the BO, I have 7 grams left.
