Received 3.28 lbs (1,487 grams) of washed dorset fleece, white for a 40/60 trade.
Combing fleece and winding into little nests.
Hackle and comb work well on this fleece, but there is a lot of vm in it (straw / hay / seed heads) and it takes several passes to remove the majority of it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of waste after combing… about 25% is short ends and neps.
Handle of fleece is very nice, next to skin soft, nice bounce and creamy white colour.
While processing the little nests I want to stop and just start spinning it… it’s so wonderful to work with so far.
Info from Spinderella’s Fiber Mill:
Dorset Horned Sheep originated in Southern England, and was imported into the U.S. in 1885. In 1948, a dominant gene for polledness occurred which resulted in Polled ( no horns)Dorset’s which are now popular in the farm flocks. Dorset’s are medium-sized, white-faced, produce medium-wool fleeces free of black fibers and have wool extending down the legs. They are commonly used in crossbreeding.
