Dave tried on Jim’s sweater and fell in love. The fit was just right, but the sweater has been worn a lot. So I need to knit to those measurements.

Chest: 43”
Length: 28”
Sleeve upper arm: 21”
Wrist: 10”
Sleeve length: 21”

Gauge in Jim’s sweater
28-32 sts and 33-35 rows per 4”
Conclusion: knitwear conforms to your body.

Let’s do a hat swatch. Aiming for 22” head. Cast on half the body stitches 324/2= 162 - 16 = 146

Work K1P1 rib for 3” or till I can’t stand it, then increase to 162 and start body chart. I think I can get a band and one start before I need to start crown decreases. But we’ll see.

It’s a poor workman who blames his tools, but you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

There are things I do not like about this FO. My knitting is the same as it ever was, I think the issue is with the yarn. It’s very lovely yarn, soft and affordable. But I do not think it is a good match to this type of garment. It’s too soft. And lacks structure or ompf. Not scientific, but my feeling about it.

Also, the superwash gave me heartache when it came to the steaks. I wouldn’t want to do that again. I sewed ribbon on the sleeve steek 3 times, and I’m almost ready to take out one and do it a fourth time, but enough is enough and good enough is good enough.

I think it is still lovely. Perhaps I’m just sick of it!
