Mods:
-
Made the sleeve cuffs longer (20 rows) as I like longer cuffs
-
Added another inch to the body before I started pockets as I have a very long upper back, probably could have added another inch, but wasnt sure as to yardage, so did not want to risk it.
-
Added another inch to body lenght after pocket insertion, same reason as above. Total length to Bottom Edging from underarm 15” instead of 13” as written. On me, even with the extra lenght, the final cardi lenght looks like the original pattern.
-
extra repeats of brioche on the front facing to accomodate the D cup, as with the narrower band, on me, the fronts were staying by the pits. The extra fabric gave enough grip for the cardi to stay open, but to lay mid chest, and not pull to sides. A friend (B cup), tried the cardi on with the band as written, before the extra rows, and on her the narrower band was laying fine, same effect as the wider band in me.
01-03-2019 Sleeve UPDATE
The sleeves were too wide as written, so Simone provided updated instructions. Redid sleeves using the new numbers:
91 sts after picking up. 89 after gusset round 1, but stil sleeves were too wide for me, so after I had the 89 sts, I did sleeve decrease every 6 rounds x18, instead of every 7 rounds x14, for final count of 53sts instead of 61.
14.5” sleeve length before cuff instead of 17.5”
Longer cuffs than written: 20 rounds of 1a and 1b for the cuff on US 3, swithching back to US5 on the last MC round before bind off. B/o on US5
Test Yarn yardage
The cardi as written (including my modificatoins as listed), used 3 full skeins of the main blue color, and 72 gram/ 306 yards of the contrast color.

01-14-2019 Re-knit notes
After the test was done I had yarn left over and felt that I would like the cardi longer, with the pockets lower, closer to the front and deeper, so unraveled up to the pocket insertion and re-knit the bottom of the cardi.
-
New pockets inserted at 11 3/4” from underarm, 7sts from the edge, and made them 23sts wide. 5” deep.
-
length of cardi from underarm before starting bottom edging 18”
-
all brioche edgings (sleeves/bottom/front) are 20 rows deep.
-
all the brioche edgings on US3 needle. The last MC row and the b/o on US5.

mods to the bind off ~ Kept the bottom stitches live, and after the front edging done, did one continuous bind off of both the front and the bottom: After finishing the bottom edging brioche, on US3, worked one MC row on US5 and transferred the live stitches to a stitch holder. Then picked up and knitted the front edging as per pattern, only not slipping the edge stitches, but working them just like in the bottom edging. Once the front edging was done on US3, did the MC row on US5, and started the b/o, when reaching the corner, c/o an extra stitch to have a nice 90 degree turn, as if starting the b/o instructions anew, then picked up the stitches on the side of the edging and continued to bind them off. Then the b/o continued to the live stitches that were on a stitch holder. Reaching the end of live stitches, picked up stitches from the other side of the front edging that hasn’t been worked yet, and continued the bind off to the corner to meet the very first stitch of the b/o. Made sure to finish off with the same look to the corner as the opposite lapel.
