Notes

THIS IS NOT A PATTERN - but notes of what I did.

This minion is based on ‘Bob’ from the 2015 ‘Minions’ movie. He has two eyes (different colours….his left eye is brown, his right eye is green), no hair and no ‘G’ on his overalls pocket as the movie shows the minions ‘pre-Gru’. He carries a teddy bear and a rat.

Made using US terms and working in continuous rounds (Amigurumi style).
Finished minion is approximately 50cm (almost 20”) from head to toe.
I made a big capsule shape for the body, then went up a 0.5 hook size to make the pants.
The body is 8ply acrylic yarn held double and worked with a 6.00mm hook. Pants - 6.5mm hook.
If you wish to - you could start off in blue for the pants and change colour to yellow for the body. I prefer the look of them wearing the overalls and prefer to make them separately.

Body/Overalls;
I started with 12sc in a magic ring.
Then working in Amigurumi style……
2nd round - 2sc in each st.
3rd round - sc
4th round - (1sc in first st, 2sc in next st) around.
5th round - sc
6th round - (1sc in next 2sts, 2sc in next st) around.
7th & 8th rounds - sc
9th round - (1sc in next 3sts, 2sc in next st) around.
10th & 11th rounds - sc
12th round - ( 1sc in next 4sts, 2sc in next st) around.
After that, I worked rounds in sc until I thought that it’s body was big enough, then worked from round 12 back to round one, but decreasing instead of increasing - if that makes sense. (’2sctog’ instead of ‘2sc in next st’).
The overalls I started in exactly the same way using a larger hook and worked sc rows after the last increase round and stopped when I felt that they were long enough. Then worked a few rows of sc for the ‘bib’ part of the overalls - I judged the size of the bib by placing the pants onto the finished, stuffed body and seeing what looked about right.

Overalls pocket - I made enough chain to make a pocket - pocket needs to be a square that is a bit smaller than the bib section - worked in rows of sc until it was square and I finished with a row of rev sc (optional).

Overalls straps (Make 2) - I worked a chain long enough to reach from the top of the bib, over the arm to the back of the pants and then worked a row of hdc and a row of sc. I then attached them to the front and back of the pants and secured with a stitch at the ‘shoulder’, above the arm.

Arms and Legs - I made sure to do a row near the cuff of the boots and gloves that was worked in the front loops only…..this left me a row of stitches that I could pick up and work to make the arms and legs. The arms and legs are rounds of sc until you are happy with the length.

Boots - based on a basic ‘Repeat Crafter Me’ bootie pattern with a piece of thick plastic placed in the base for the sole. Bob is short-ish and round, so I made the boots with the yarn held double and used a 6.0mm hook.
I worked Row 17 in the front loops, leaving the back loops free as a starting point to work the legs from.
The legs - double blue yarn, pick up the loops from the back loops of Row 17, work 1 round of sc. Next round I worked (4sc, 2sc in next) around, sc any remaining sts, then a round of sc.
On the side of the leg that will be the ‘outside’, I worked a half round of sc.

Hands - loosely based on a ‘Lionbrand’ baby mittens pattern. Arms are 12st rounds, worked in continuous rounds - yellow.

Eyes/Goggles
Bob has one brown and one green eye -
- I used the 3.5mm hook for the eyes…..based on the ‘Yolanda Soto Lopez’ video on YouTube (free);
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crWUgOHXYvo
I worked the eyes with yarn held double and a 4.0mm hook.
To get the colour in the eyes, I used a scrap of green yarn held together with a scrap of ‘Moda Vera’ ‘Bouvardia’ - ‘Flourescence’ for both.
I paired the green yarn with the greener piece of the Bouvardia and the brown with the browner toned piece.
For the goggles, I use a grey or silver and work a row of hdc in the front loops only around the white of the eye, sl st to join, ch2.
Work 1 row of hdc in both loops, sl st to join, ch1.
1sc in each st around in the back loops only, sl st to join, ch2.
Hdc around in the back loops only, sl st to join, ch2.
(9Hdc, 2hdc tog) around in both loops, hdc any remaining stitches after the last 2hdc tog, sl st to join, finish off.
Sew the white of the eye to the Minion first, then sew the goggles edge to the head.

Goggles strap - using black yarn, work enough chains to fit around the head from one side of the eye to the other. Then work a row of hdc and a row of sc. Sew to the head.

Mouth - I used the black yarn and stitch a solid line of black, then top stitch back over the first row of sewing - it gives a more solid, straight look to the line.
