Using up some scrap yarns to make a ‘Twiddle Mitt’ or ‘Twiddle Muff’.
What is a Twiddle Muff?
A Twiddle muff is a double thickness hand muff with bits and bobs attached inside and out. It is designed to provide a stimulation activity for restless hands for patients suffering from dementia, anxiety, autism and other mental health issues where a calming of the mind may be helpful.
I made a basic sleeve (2/3 blue to represent water and 1/3 sand), then attached an inner sleeve and crocheted the two pieces together around each end - I also placed a layer of quilter’s wadding/batting in between the layers for a bit of thickness.
Inside the mitt is some ‘seaweed’ with a few seashells randomly attached and a sea turtle.
Outside is the octopus, a shark fin and a few amazing beach themed buttons that I found at a local craft store.
’Tropicana’ and ‘Day at the Beach’ button collections also available at www.dressitupbuttons.com/

Shark fin
A simple crocheted cone shape stretched over a piece of fin-shaped plastic, sewn into place.
I made an extra/separate, slightly larger octopus - also for twiddling - just because!
