Notes

In commemoration of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen

Hands/Arms;
3.5mm hook and skin colour - cream.

Legs/body/head;
3.5mm hook and charcoal blend (dark grey) for the shoes to end of Rnd 10 then skin colour (cream) to the top of the head.

Hat
3.5mm hook and lilac - I started with 7sc in a magic ring, then increased in each round until I got to the (7sc, inc) round.
Think I worked 6 or 7 rounds of sc, then worked the next increase round in the front loops only - to encourage the brim to stand out.
I worked a few more increase rounds (starting with 8sc, inc…then 9sc, inc…then 10sc, inc…then 6sc, inc…then 7sc, inc..then dec, 7sc) until the brim was wide enough, then finished with 3 or 4 rounds of slip stitch - this gives a smooth, firmer outer edge to the hat brim.
The hat band
3.5mm hook and purple - make a chain the sits snuggly around the hat, dc to end. Stitch in place around hat.

The hair
4.5mm hook and light grey.
To make the curls, I started with 5ch, (1hdc,2dc) in the 2nd ch from the hook, then 3dc in each ch to 2nd last ch, sl st into last ch - immediately start your chain for your next curl.
To work remaining curls - I varied the starting chain for each curl starting with 5, 6 or 7 chains….make enough curls to reach from one side of the face, around the back of the head to the other side of her face.
Stitch in place, then sew hat to head above the curls.

The skirt
3.5mm hook and lilac.
I made a chain to fit snugly around the middle of the doll, then worked rounds in sc to desired length.

The top
3.5mm hook and lilac.
I worked the first 3 rounds of the bodice, then worked 4 rounds of hdc to lengthen the bodice before working Rnd 4 to create the armholes - I made 6ch instead of 8 to reduce the sleeve size.
Rnd 5: I put the bodice onto doll and worked…
1ch, 3hdc, 3hdc together, 1hdc, 2hdc tog, 1hdc, 3hdc tog, 2hdc, 2hdc tog, 2hdc, 3hdc tog, 1hdc, 2hdc tog, 1hdc, 2hdc, 2hdc tog, sl st to join, finish off.
Sleeves - join yarn under arm and work 12 hdc around armhole, sl st to join.
Ch 1 and work 3 or 4 rounds of hdc - depending on how long you want your sleeve to be.

Handbag
2.5mm hook and charcoal blend (same as shoes).
6ch, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end, ch1, turn. (5)
Row 2: increase, sc to end, ch1, turn. (6)
Rows 3-6: inc, sc to end, ch1, turn.
Row 7: working in back loops only…sc to end, ch 1, turn. (10)
Rows 8-9: sc to end.(10)
Row 10: working in back loops only…sc to end, ch 1, turn. (10)
Remaining rows: dec at the start of every row until you have 5sts, work a chain to create the handle - think 10ch was long enough for mine - finish off.
Sides of bag (make 2)
7ch - 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, 2sc, 2hdc, 1dc.

Fold handbag in half, sew sides in place - thicker dc end near base…stitch handle to other side of the top edge of the bag.

Paddington
3.5mm hook cream and brown yarn (no label on my brown yarn).
Face
I started with cream for his snout, then changed to brown for the rest of his head - I worked a few center stitches between the eyes in cream.
Body/Arms/Legs
All brown.

Hat
3.5mm hook and dark red.
6sc in a magic ring.
Rnd 1: inc around. (12)
Rnd 2: (1sc, inc) around. (18)
Rnd 3: sc around. (18)
Rnd 4: (2sc, inc) around. (24)
Rnds 5 - 9: sc around. (24)
Rnd 10: (3sc, inc) around. (30)
Rnd 11: working in front loops only…(4hdc, inc) around. (36)
Rnd 12: working in both loops again…(3sc, inc) around, finish off. Push a ‘dent’ into the top of the front of the hat, pinch the front to shape it and stitch to maintain the shape. Sew hat to head.
Add a tan coloured hat band - I used 2.5mm hook and made a length of crochet braid, but a simple chain would do.

Jacket
3.5mm hook and mid-blue yarn.
Chain 25, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end. (24)
Row 2: sc to end, ch1, turn. (24)
Row 3: (dec, 2sc) to end, ch1, turn. (18)
Rows 4 - 6: sc to end, ch1, turn. (18)
Row 7: (dec, 1sc) to end, ch1, turn. (12)
Collar: work in back loops only…working in hdc (inc, 1hdc) to last 2sts, inc, inc…finish off.
Sew jacket to body.
Sleeves
Ch 10, sl st to join, sc around. (9)
Work 4 rounds of sc, then (dec, 1sc) x 3, finish off…insert arm into sleeve, sew to side of body.
I used tan yarn to add front jacket detail/buttons.

To avoid increase lines on the bottom of the head,
I ‘split’ or stagger the increases like this;
Up to Rnd 34: As per pattern.
Rnd 35: 2sc, inc, * (4sc, inc) * repeat from * to * to last 2sts - finish the round with 2sc.
Rnd 36: As per pattern.
Rnd 37: 3sc, inc, * (6sc, inc) * repeat from * to * to last 3sts - finish the round with 3sc.
Rnd 38: As per pattern.
Rnd 39: 4sc, inc, * (8sc, inc) * repeat from * to * to last 4sts - finish the round with 4sc.
Rnd 40 and beyond: As per pattern.
So - the pattern hasn’t been altered at all!
You’ve simply moved the increases on all of the ‘even’ rounds and all ‘odd’ rounds remain the same
