Notes

Using leftovers. This is such a quick project and uses hardly any yarn!

The mouse looked cute, but rather naked, so I decided to make her some clothes!

Mouse dress:
CO 48 sts in fingering weight yarn with size 0 needles.
Make seed stitch hem (6 rows) and sides to keep dress from rolling up.
K 8 rows of stockinette. Dec 4 sts on the next row (I chose to dec on the sides, just inside the seed stitch edges, and a double dec in the middle.) 3 more rows stockinette, then dec again. Do this 4 times until 32 sts remain.
3 more rows stockinette.
Armholes: K 7 sts, BO 3 sts, K 12, BO 3, K 7. Work 3 sections separately for 8 rows each. Join all sections on needle and K 2 rows stockinette, adding 1 backwards loop st per armhole.
Seed stitch again, 2 rows, then BO in pattern.
Short sleeves: pick up and knit armhole sts and work sleeve in the round, ending with 2 rows seed st. BO in pattern. (I picked up 14 sts and realized while doing the seed st that I needed an odd # of sts, so I did an inconspicuous M1 to accomplish this.)

Mouse apron:
CO 24 sts. Make picot edging: K 4 rows stockinette, next row alternate K2tog & yo to end.
Continue stockinette for 16 rows.
Next row dec 2 sts, one at each edge.
Purl next 3 rows to make waistband.
Next row dec 2 more sts in the same way.
Continue by dec every row (on both knit and purl sides) until diagonal dec lines meet (10 rows from waistband). BO all 8 sts.
Make i-cord for neck strap and apron ties.
Fold lower hem of apron under and stitch neatly to inside of the fabric.
Pocket: pick up 8 sts on lower part of apron (make sure they’re centered from left to right), knit tiny square and BO all sts. Embroider flower on pocket, then sew sides of pocket to apron.

Contemplating knitting a wee basket next … I can’t stop myself!

~ 1 hour later ~

OK, I was right, I couldn’t resist the basket:
CO 31 sts. Join in the round and K 10 rnds seed st.
Purl next row, placing a marker after 16th st. M1 at end of row.
Next row: ssk, K until 2 sts before marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, K until 2 sts before end of rnd, k2tog.
Repeat dec rnd 2 more times. Arrange remaining sts on 2 needles and graft together.
Decide before weaving in ends whether you think the basket looks better as is or inside out. I think both ways look pretty good. I left it as is.
Make i-cord handle. For fun, I tried a sort of garter stitch i-cord. It’s a bit wobbly, but it made an interesting basket handle.

All done!
