Fundamental in Finesse

I used 3.5mm needles for the start and 4.5mm thereafter - this got me to gauge with the King Cole Finesse yarn.

I didn’t like the look of the cable cast on for the underarms so ripped back and used a thumb cast on, which was far neater.

I made size 50.5” for my 44” bust and achieved a very relaxed fit. I also added 4” length before the hem shaping and I really prefer this new length even though I am 5’4” tall.

The stockinette curl at the hem caused me some issues so I sort of cobbled together something which didn’t curl quite so badly although I’m still not entirely happy with it and it may be unpicked and re-done again. Edit: I unravelled the hem AGAIN and have settled on garter stitch short rows (which meant a new BOR) and an Italian bind-off. No curl at all and I love it!

I used GSR instead of w&t (I hate w&t!) and it works ok - just a few ‘spaces’ but the finesse has just enough fuzz to minimize the effect of that.

I’m now planning to make another for a friend and then probably another for me too.

Edit: when I saw how washed-out I looked in the pale grey, I decided to dye my sweater red. I also thought it was a little too loose so (against the ball/band washing instructions) I tumble-dried it and now it rocks! The photos in red are the result of my rule-breaking.
