Made this to go with the lovely Travelling Woman shawl that I received at a Christmas gift exchange. I made it up as I went along, beginning with a cast-on of 8 stitches, dividing into 8 sections and increasing 8 stitches around every other row until I had 120 stitches. In each section I began working a horseshoe lace pattern (From Barbara Walker’s Treasury of Knitting Patterns) in row 14, continuing with 3 more repeats of the pattern before ending the body with an inch of plain stockinette.
For the brim, I decreased 16 stitches evenly around and ended with an inch of 1X1 ribbing. I used a variation of super stretchy cast off, adding a yarn over when casting off the purl stitches only.
