Notes

After much swatching, experimenting & the arrival of new WM colours in my repertoire from when I initially started, this is the final combo I used. First two repeats of Chart F are without row 10 (Amethyst Light was used in row 10 of the final repeat).

Chart F was repeated twice due to my gauge being different than that called for in the pattern.

Chart A - Maus Alt & Türkis WD
Chart B - Maus Alt & Wasabi
Chart C - Maus Alt & Turquoise Versuchs
Chart D - Amethyst Light & Frühling
Chart E - Hamam & Purple Velvet
Chart F - Amethyst Dark & Türkis WD
Chart E - Meilenstein & Sabrina
Chart F - Maus Alt, Ooohm & Amethyst Light

August 2nd 2011- finished swatching in the round and coming in under gauge. Getting 30 stitches & 36 rows to 4”. Going up a needle size results in a not-dense-enough-for-my-liking fabric, so will just play with the maths.

August 3rd - cast on 320.

August 6th - 18 rows of ribbing done, ready to start colourwork.

…………………..

October 2nd 1013 - time to get a grip on the UFOs. Need to frog this bad boy back a little as I made a boo-boo a few rows back that I fixed with duplicate, but it just bugs too much, which is why I think I rather let this one sit for so long.

November 13th - finished the first section and worked the increase round. Starting on Chart B & the Maths is wrong. After doing some calculations, I started at stitch #5 on the chart, working 9 repeats & the finishing on stitch #13 to center it up properly. And I should have checked the pattern page as that errata is already there. Doh!

Dec. 8th - finished swatching for flat work. 35 rows & 30 stitches to 4” on US4’s.

Dec 31st - Just about finished armhole shaping for the back and discovered my stitch count is off. Have also decided that doing colourwork flat is a giant PITA and that it’s time to learn how to steek, so ripping that shit back and after a bit of searching, I found this fab tutorial that explains exactly how to set up for the steeked portion.

Jan 8th 2014 - all the stranded work is done, just 23 rows of plain knitting in Maus Alt to go before shoulder shaping & binding off.

Jan 9th - Off the needles, ready to block before steeking.

Jan 12th - Decided I wasn’t liking the Frühling/Lavendell repeat of Chart F & that three repeats of Chart E together weren’t quite right, so frogged back & replaced with a Chart E in Meilenstein & Sabrina.

Jan 16th - Blocked out the reknit sections yesterday & sewing a steek today. After practising, I found that using a nylon thread is much better than silk, which snapped too easily with stress. Sewing with 1mm long stitches. Sewing slowly seems to help eliminate the fabric stretching. Gonna work the steeks one at a time, finishing each one with the ribbing & a casing.

Jan 19th - picking up stitches on the second armhole. Haven’t yet figured out how to finish the steek edges - too impatient to get it near done and actually try it on.

Jan 21st - starting the neckhole ribbing.

Jan 24th - finished neck ribbing - had to pull it out a couple of times as I wasn’t happy with how I’d picked up stitches at the bottom of the ‘V’. Now to figure out what to do with the steeks and weave in a few ends.

Feb 12th - have gone with some bias tape folded in half and tacked in place around the raw steek edges to protect them and give a tidier look to the inside. Will now blanket stitch these down & then I’m done.

March 17th - all done & photographed. I love how this turned out. Only downer is that I kinda chunked up a bit since I started knitting it, so had to block it out a bit so that it would fit.
