Notes

January 10, 2019

Starting late on this one and then had to dash out quickly for ‘thinner’ black yarn. The Red Heart I was going to use was noticeably thicker and stiffer than the Ombre’s and just wasn’t gonna do at all.

~Yay! The Mainstay Black is perfect and I’m off to a colorful and fun start. This was just the type of project I needed right now. But I’m sure the crazy will begin somewhere… it’s a Frank pattern afterall… lol

~Rnd 1 - 20 Complete.

Continuing to granny it this morning. The colors look fantastic so far, but I have no idea how it will look as the yarn colors begin doing their ombre thing. Initially I thought about starting all colors with the lightest part of the ombre - then having them go darker around the same time but quickly saw that would be a pain in the butt to accomplish. So I’m just letting them do what they will - my contribution to the cray cray! Hoping for the best…

~Cruising along this afternoon. So far its a very easy, relaxing make… I’m waiting for something unexpected though! ;)

~Rnd 25 Skip the ch3 in the middle of each side to maintain your counts. It says 3dc in each ch1, but it is VERY easy on this type of pattern to just put 3dc in the lone ch3 left too.

~Rnd 30 is a dc in every st/sp… 111 dc each side & standard granny corner (117 total ea side)

Round Granny ---> Square Granny ---> Ripple Granny! Maybe the crazy part of this is there is no crazy? Which IS crazy when you consider the designer! lol

I finished up a skein of black on Round 30. I put the full amount of yarns I had gathered for this project, I’ll adjust for actual usage at the end.

January 13, 2019

Starting out with Rnd 35 this morning. Seems like this will be just a quick, easy, relaxing project to make. There’s something really comforting about granny stitching… its rhythmic and lulling.

Due to the changing ‘shapes’ I’d suggest laying it out and smoothing it out every so often; and if your ripple points are getting ‘slanty’ you can do a round or two on the WS to help.

~Through Rnd 41 Complete. Attached the 3rd skein of black midway.

January 14, 2019

Through Rnd 44 Complete. Remembering now how I’m not really a fan of working with black yarn… :) One more to go, then a few motifs, before continuing.

January 15, 2019

Had a busy day today but finally getting a chance to work on this a bit. I finished up Rnd 45, then made my first of four motifs. I used the join as you go directions in the pattern and it is now attached to the main project.
Just a quick note on the join… think about the project orientation before joining or you may end up with the WS of the motif facing up. If that doesn’t matter to you then don’t worry about it. For me, you can really tell a difference between the RS and WS so I made sure to have the flat side of the corner of the main project facing down for the join… (or another way to put it would be to have the WS’s or the RS’s together as you center the motif and join)
~2 more motifs made and joined. 1 more to go. I still have a lot left of each of the colors, so here’s to hoping the last rounds use a bunch up.

January 16, 2019

All motifs attached and starting the final rounds. And, great…. NOW my ombre yarn colors begin to show their effect and don’t make it through a whole round. I’m really not happy about that, it sort of made using the ombre’s for this pattern pointless. I was going to try to manipulate the color fades at first but changed my mind so let’s just chalk it up as a poor choice in yarns to use the way that I used it. (using just one or two ombre’s would have worked really well though) Here’s to hoping it looks good anyway, lol!

January 17, 2019

Through Rnd 50 complete.

January 18, 2019

Looks like I’m done with colors after each has been used one more time so I took some time to cake up the remaining yarn and weigh what is left to determine actual yardage used.

I’ll do the same with the Jazzy (pink) when I finish Rnd 51. I’ll finish the project up doing Rnds 52-54 in Black. I’ll be done either later on tonight or by midday tomorrow, got some stuff going on these next few days.

January 19, 2019

Final round is coming right up. Should be finished shortly. Pics and measurements to follow…

Finished! 72” - less than 3000 yards This is an easy, quick pattern to work up. Easily made larger (or smaller); colors could be used in many, many ways to make each one look unique. A great go-to pattern for anyone loving grannies or just wanting a quick make. :)
