I’ve made this before; but this time with a heavier weight color-changing yarn and a bigger hook. I’d tried using this yarn with a few different patterns and just wasn’t happy with how it was coming out; color-changing yarn can sometimes be problematic with certain patterns.

Once I started this one, I realized it could turn out quite beautifully… The yarn itself is very soft and nice to work with; however in looking at the cakes that I have, the colors don’t always appear in the same order, and at least one of them doesn’t look like it has the lavender at all. I’ve certainly ‘color corrected’ when needed using this kind of yarn, but honestly was trying very hard to find a pattern where that wouldn’t be necessary. slightly_smiling_face

Currently on Rnd 53. I attached the 5th and last skein of this yarn within the last round or so and I’ve let it do its own thing with no color corrections at all.

At this point I’m fairly certain there won’t be enough to complete the pattern. I am considering trying to put the edging rounds on early to finish it up; or go as far as I can and then pick up one of the colors and find a DK yarn from my stash to finish it up. I don’t have any ombres though; so I feel that unless the solid I choose is only used for the edging rounds, it may not look right.
Anyway, I’m determined to finish this up… It’s so cuddly soft and squishable. A very pretty, textured piece.

ETA: I just checked and it would cost far too much in shipping for me to consider ordering the remaining yarn needed in this colorway. Normally, I’d just order enough other yarn to qualify for ‘free shipping’. :) But, I have TONS of yarn already. I just ~can’t~ justify it right now.

It’s time to “Make it work!” wink

I tried out a couple things in an attempt to see if I could work the edging rows early and I just couldn’t manage to get the math down correctly.
This morning I’m on Rnd 55 and beginning another ‘mesh’ section.
In looking over my stash earlier I noticed I have a couple of other mandala colorways, but 4 of one, and 5 of another… I knew they weren’t available in my local area store, but checked again on shipping if I added the other mandala colorways. Could only get 3 packs, but I ordered them. I have zero willpower, lol… but my justification is that this piece deserves to be finished completely with no shortcuts, and the plus side is that I will definitely have enough of the other colorways to do other projects with.

Oh no!!! I’m over halfway through Rnd 55, and I discovered I missed a sc and loop on Rnd 54. There is no way to fix it without frogging back. I absolutely hate when this happens, a lot of times I can do a fix, or do some ‘crochet surgery’ to get back on track - but with this mesh, the way that it is done, there is no way around it.

So, sadly it is time to ‘ribbit, ribbit, ribbit’ face_palm

Well, frogged back to correct and then continued on. Currently left off at Rnd 57. At this size, the remaining yarn I had didn’t make it very far. I ordered a 3-pack of this colorway so I could finish it up completely; and now I’m wondering if even that will be enough, lol! It’ll be a couple of days before I get the yarn, so I’m going to peek through some of my WIPs. It’s time to either finish or frog some of these…

My yarn order arrived! Yay! But I have to start my externship clinical rotation next week, yay to finally starting (pandemic delayed them); but Boo! because that means all my crochet time goes out the window for the next 6 weeks. I’m going to TRY to finish this one this weekend, but with it being a holiday weekend and needing to prepare ahead for my new ‘work’ schedule your guess is as good as mine whether I’ll manage it or not!
Starting with/finishing up Rnd 57. The pattern ends at Rnd 67. Ten rounds left, with 3 new skeins to use.

It will use these new skeins up pretty quickly at this size however, so my fingers are crossed…

On Rnd 64, and though close to finishing the rounds take a long time… I noticed it started ruffling some over the last few rounds, but my counts are completely correct. I was able to ‘roughly’ smooth a lot of it out, but we’ll see what happens after the edging. Overall though, it’s beautiful whether ruffle-y at the edges or not.

~If I ever do this one again, I’d go down a hook size for that last section which would probably help.

Finished! But a final pic will have to wait till tomorrow’s light. It will make a beautiful gift for my new granddaughter, due in September. smiley
