Wanted to find a special weaving project for my own hand-painted hand-dyed yarn (base: Knit Picks Simply Cotton Fingering). Only had one skein in this color way, so will alternate squares with black 3/2 Astra Supreme to make a plaid twill table runner for my kitchen table.
Warp:
12 EPI
12 Dent Reed
199 warp ends
82” warp length
16.5 inches width in Reed
Hand-Dyed Yarn in Warp, 46 grams, 201 yards
Black Yarn in Warp 101 grams, 279 yards
Weft:
12 PPI
Aiming for squares and 12 PPI
Target overall woven length @48” + fringe
Hand-Dyed Yarn in Weft, 42 grams, 184 yards
Black Yarn in Weft 62 grams, 173 yards

The solid black and half black squares are looking great! The weaving design gets lost though in the busy colors of the squares where the handpainted warp and weft cross each other.
So far I’ve been using two medium size boat shuttles with 4” bobbins - at this width those bobbins don’t go very far. So I’m going to try using the one longer boat shuttle I own, with its 6” bobbin for one color and a loaded up long stick shuttle for the other color. (I may have to start saving $ to get another longer boat shuttle)
The stick shuttle was a tad fiddly, the boat shuttles are definitely easier. The long Schacht shuttle was the best to use. Of the two medium length shuttles, the hefty weight Leclerc one was much easier to glide through the shed; the lighter weight Troika shuttle, though thinner was nice, it was so very light weight that it was more difficult to use with this table runner’s width.
