Change of plans - bought two colors of sport weight yarn for this project (rather than using the two remnants of worsted weight in my stash).

Gauge swatch done. Right on gauge with 2.5 needles (3mm).

Definitely learning some new terminology and techniques with this project. Had a few restarts and tink backs, but finally got past the challenging stuff and now already half way through the colorwork! Hope they fit me - really like the design!

Mitten #1 is done and fits pretty good. Still attached to not quite finished mitten #2.

LATER:. Got mitten #2 caught up. Next step is STEEKING !!

Today is officially a “day of rest” from working on these mittens. I mentally know how to steek, but I have to emotionally prepare my soul…

Got all the crocheted reinforcement preparation done for the steeking ceremony! Just gotta get brave enough to take the scissors to it…

LATER THAT DAY: It has been done - they are cut apart. Only nipped one stitch and got it repaired.
Gotta get them blocked and the cuff edge lightly felted before I decide if I really like the fit or not. At this point, the thumbs are fat and the overall length is short - perhaps I can block some length into them yet.

I would definitely make the cuffs about twice as long if I do this pattern again. And I should have added more length to the center of the fingers.

Also, not crazy about the pinky edge finish - it’s OK on the thumb edges, but too bulky for the long outer edges. I know the designer’s exercise intent was no seaming and all fluid construction of both mittens at same time. And this design is pure genius in meeting that intent. But, that being said, next time I would do kitchener to seam the pinky edges together.
