Notes

Actually found this pattern in book titled “Colorful Knit Soxx” by Kerstin Balke, copyright 2017 (Ravelry links it to another book by same designer). Attached photo is designer’s photo found here in Ravelry - I’ll change it to my own photos as I get going on this project. smiley
Anyhow, I want to do something colorful and use some partial skeins of SW sock yarns in my stash. Suspect I may have to do these on DPNs so that I don’t get hopelessly tangled in trailing strands doing my usual round cable needles 2-at-a-time socks. And I’ll have to play with gauge a bit most likely to determine best size of needles to use.
Off to my stash/hoard of yarns…

Colors planned, picked from my remnants crate --
Designer’s colors (pictured) / My remnant colors:
Tangerine / Wine, Cascade Heritage
Turquoise / Sage, Cascade Heritage
Kiwi / Lilac, Cascade Heritage
Off-White / Soft White, Premier Serenity (above heel)
Off-White / Columbina White, Manos Del Uruguay (below heel)
(later on: changed below heel white to “bare” Knit Picks Stroll Fingering; and added Cascade Heritage Baby blue to the color work on the foot)

Worked gauge swatch on US2/2.75mm DPNs - got 32 st and 32 rows for 4”. I have to believe that altho I’m a tad on the large side of the gauge, I will undoubtedly draw in a bit on color work, so I’m going with these needles and going up to size 9 Women’s, so CO 68. Going to work two sets at the same time on two sets of DPNs - since I’m using remnant yarns that way I can get the socks to match

After a couple restarts, finally got these socks going! Working 2-at-a-time on cable needles (DPNs are too fiddly!). Changed the ribbing to K1tbl/P1 for firmer ribbing. Also changed one of the yarns - dropping Manos del Uruguay Allegra, and instead using Knit Picks Stroll Fingering Bare yarn that better matches the color of the Premier Serenity Sock Yarn remnant.

Moving along! Learned a new-to-me method: the Boomerang Heel (a.k.a. The German Short Row Heel). Had to watch three YouTube videos to get the concept into my head!! Worked out pretty good.
Also decided to add another remnant color for the foot colorwork - Cascade Heritage “Baby” blue.

This is looking great! Heel fits nicely and the color changes to the foot are working nicely. partying_face socks

Finished knitting the socks - so cute!
Just need to weave in a few dozen yarn ends now…

Finished! Love Love Love these socks!!!
(I changed the toe to more basic toe I usually use when knitting 2-at-a-time on cable needles)

04-19-2022

Got them blocked! Red bled a little at the cuff onto the white; hopefully that will wash out more over time. A few minor mistakes in carrying the floats at the turning point on the cables. But very pleased with this fun pattern!

I have to make more of the socks from this fun book! Erinn grabbed these before I even had a chance to wear them this fall. But I love it when she loves something that I knit!
