Another test for Jennifer Weissman. This is the scarf version of the shawl I also tested. I love both versions!
The scarf was relaxing to knit. It starts with a turkish cast on which is invisible at the end, so the transition looks very tidy. This technique is also explained in a video by the designer and easy to follow.
The scarf is wide enough to warm my shoulders, though I often prefer shawls for more warmth. It will truly be used often!
Test thread is here.
Deadline: Feb. 18, 2025.
I followed the pattern as written, but made an error in the second leaves section (I overlooked row 3-4 after the eyelets). I left it in and made the same error on the other side, to mirror it. So, totalt I worked 4 less rows than in pattern.
I also forgot to change to larger needle where instructed, but it blocked out nicely. So, all is knit with needle 4.5 mm.
Measurements and gauge in garter stitch with needle 4.5 mm (Wooden needle, Knit Pro Cubics t’adore):
UNWASHED:
19 sts/ 36 rows = 10 cm
Length: 140 cm
Width: 29 cm
WASHED AND BLOCKED TO PATTERN MEASUREMENTS, DRY:
18 sts/ 24 rows = 10 cm
Length: 197 cm
Width: 30.5 cm
All blocked measurements are likely as in pattern.
Yarn - skeins and amount used:
(1) 51 g. Used up halfway into third Leaves chart 1.
(2) 50 g. Used up in row 19 of chart 3.
(3) 51 g. Left after 1st half: 40 g. Used up, 2nd side: row 12 of 2nd chart 1 repeat.
(4) 51 g. Used up, 2nd side: row 16 of chart 3.
(5) 34 g: 10 g used (24 g left at the end).
51+50+51+51+10 = 213 g used total, 4.26 skeins = 566.6 meters (619.8 yards).
Time used: about 11 hours used for the charted parts. I don’t know the time I used for the written only sections, but it might have been about 1 hour for each garter stitch part, incl Bind-off- resulting in 11 more hours. This would be 22 knitting hours total.
Pattern notes:
78”/198 cm long
12”/30.5 cm wide
Blocked Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4”/10 cm in garter stitch using US 7/4.5 mm needle
