Test for Jennifer Weissman, a triangle shawl with beautiful leave motifs. The pattern is, as always with this designer, clear and easy to follow.
The pattern has afterthought yarnovers before purled stitches, which makes the size of all lace holes equal. A great technique, both charted and well explained.
My yarn is a light DK, and so the final size turned out smaller than the original. It’s a good size for me and gives a soft and versatile shawl.
My stitch gauge was actually near up to pattern gauge, while my row gauge is tighter.
Test thread is here.
Deadline: February 10, 2025.
My shawl measurements:
Unblocked:
Straight edge (left): 34”/ 86 cm
Diagonal edge (right, increase side): 41.5”/ 105 cm
Bind-off edge: 31.5”/ 80 cm
Wet blocked to measurements:
Straight edge (left): 44.5”/ 113 cm
Diagonal edge (right, increase side): 56”/ 142 cm
Bind-off edge: 36”/ 91 cm
Finished measurements when dry:
Straight edge (left): 44”/ 112.5 cm
Diagonal edge (right, increase side): 55”/ 140.5 cm
Bind-off edge: 35”/ 90 cm
My gauge in garter stitch:
Note: My stitch gauge was near up to pattern gauge, but row gauge is tighter. I wasn’t able to stretch the diagonal side more than I did, it was all stretched out.
- Unblocked: 21 sts/ 42 rows
- Blocked: 18 sts/ 31 rows
Yarn amount used - I alternated skeins to avoid pooling: 110 grams used/ 1.1 skeins = 429.0 meters (469.2 yards).
(1) 83 g skein: 71 g left after B Leafy Band (chart 1). 60 g left after 2nd section C. 49 g left after 3rd section C. 41 g left after F Leaflets chart 2. 33 g left after F Leaflets chart 3. 31 g left after G Double Garter stitch. 29 g left after H Garter Stitch Band. 28 g left after Bind-off. 55 g used total of skein 1.
(2) 82 g skein: 69 g left after B Leafy Band (chart 1). 59 g left after 2nd section C. 47 g left after 3rd section C. 39 g left after F Leaflets chart 2. 31 g left after F Leaflets chart 3. 30 g left after G Double Garter stitch. 27 g left after H Garter Stitch Band. 55 g used total of skein 2.

Knitting time:
I don’t know the knitting time for the garter stitch parts, but for all the charts (1-3) including repeats I used 9 hours total.
Bind-off:
I worked as described, but found it an easier movement to slip next stitch purlwise and then inserting the left hand needle in front of the two stitches placed on right hand needle, before knitting 2tog through the back loop.

Please provide feedback on the clarity of the pattern and your satisfaction with the finished shawl. Please create a project page for your shawl that includes:
the yarn that you used and the quantity,
the needle size,
at least 3 clear photos of your finished shawl after blocking (and off the blocking boards) -- please note that photographs are extremely important,
the blocked measurements, and
a link to the pattern on Ravelry once the pattern has been released.
