I could name this shawl “Easter Egg Shawl”, because of the colors!
It’s an interesting concept with dark, medium and light colors, and fun to knit. I do this as a relaxing project between others.
The shape: not far away from a triangle. Can be folded to a triangle or square, which I played with in some of the pictures.
My gauge, blocked and measured in garter stitch section (first part):
21 stitches and 30 rows = 10 cm
Measurements:
The shawl came out a bit smaller than the original, though I used sport yarn instead of fingering.
Unblocked:
- Height/straight side: 90 cm/ 35.5”
- Diagonal - increase side (= long side): 120 cm/ 47”
- Top edge: 85 cm/ 33.5”
- Depth - measured diagonal on widest point: 85 cm/ 33.5” (same as top edge)
Blocked:
- Height/straight side: 115 cm/ 45”
- Diagonal - increase side (= long side): 153 cm/ 60”
- Top edge: 96 cm/ 74”
- Depth - measured diagonal on widest point: 70 cm/ 27.5”

Project notes:
- Little garlands: I didn’t like the K3tog-tbl and worked a different slip stitch pattern. With C4, after knitting the first stitch / btw knitting the two first sts in next repeat: P1, Sl1pwyif on RS, and P1, Sl1pwyib on WS. WS rows start with K1, P2 and end with P1, K1. For slip stitch pattern on WS, purl sts in other color and slip sts in same color as working yarn.
- Squishy ribbing: I changed the pattern to a broken rib, knitting all RS rows and following pattern on WS rows. A broken rib won’t pull in like a usual rib would do.
Tips:
- Weaving in 2 threads at a time: hold new main yarn and yarn tail in left hand, old yarn tail in right hand, alternate going under new yarn tail (left) and knit one stitch, then cross old yarn tail (right) over working yarn before knitting next stitch.
- When I weave in only one thread, I hold the working yarn and tail in the left hand, alternating going over and under the tail before knitting the stitch.
