Notes

After having tested this lovely and well written vest (revamped pattern) for me, I decided to make one for my husband. I checked the measurements and discussed it with the designer, and it should fit my husband, of course choosing a larger size.
So, I was very anxious to see how it would turn out, and started right away.

I pinned the upper back for this vest (size 6/ 124 cm) to the back of my vest (size 4) to see the difference. It looked good and I decided it should turn out great. What it did.

It took longer time to finish though, because I was busy with other projects and had to alternate. Otherwise, it would be finished much earlier.

Size: 49 (124 cm)

Needles:
This yarn is thinner and softer than the yarn I used for my previous vest, so I used 5.0 mm needles as main needles, and 4.5 mm for the frontbands and armhole bands. With these needles, I got pattern gauge.
I used the same needles (4.5 mm) for frontband and armhole bands and the Bind-off of those, using the standard BO, because the soft yarn needed a sturdy edge. The body hem was bound off with a larger needle (5.5 mm), to make it stretchy.
For the frontband, I used an extra long needle (150 cm).
I considered to work one side at a time and sew the neck, but I didn’t do this.
For information about ease, see below, at the bottom.

Skeins:
(1) 52 g
(2) 52 g. 22 g left after upper left front. All used up during joining round.
(3) 50 g. All used up 9.5 cm from armhole.
(4) 52 g. Used up 17 cm from armhole.
(5) 51 g. Used up 23 cm from armhole.
(6) 51 g.
(7) 51 g. 29 g left after hem. Used up two rows before neckband end.
(8) 51 g). Used for neckband last rows and Bind-off. Left after neckband: 41 g. Used for both armhole bands: 22 g. (19 g left unused.)
Used total:
52+52+50+52+51+51+51+51-19 = 391 g.

Notes:

  • 5 cm length added to the body.
  • Frontband: 202 sts total. Markers were placed for easier counting: 12 sts for the rib, then for every 24th stitch and 34 sts back, and mirrored down the other side.
  • Buttonholes worked on left side instead of right. 6 buttonholes with 12 sts between; the uppermost hole was moved one ridge up (to 3 cm from underarm) for evenly spacing.
  • Armhole bands: see needle notes above. I picked up stitches in this way: 8 sts, then 4 out of the next 8 sts, then 3 out of 4 to top of armhole, all mirrored down on the other side. 120 sts total. 6 rows ribbing and BO.
  • I used 6 different buttons and fingering yarn to seam them, with small fabric squares as an extra layer on WS. The squares were cut to circles after the buttons were seamed.

Ease (124 cm finished):
109 cm bust = 14 cm ease
114 cm lower body = 10 cm ease
