Blanket is airy, yet warm. Yarn is perfect.
Can be folded over and worn as a shawl by the mother when the baby is older. My friend’s baby isn’t due until august. Crossing my fingers I’ll be able to keep this a secret until then, so I can surprise her with it.
Blocking: My first time blocking with wires, and wow - can’t believe how much time I saved by not having to set individual needles in every point. I have struggled to find actual blocking wires in Norway (tips are appreciated!), but my boyfriend’s father brought me wires of welding steel from his work, and they worked perfectly. Blocking is magic.
Third part: I accidentally did ssk instead og k2tog when joining the final border to the blanket (last 4 sts of rows 2, 4, 6, 8, 10). The result is a denser joining, but I think as long as I am being consistent it will turn out ok.
Edit: It looks okay, but I prefer the original version. Will pay more attention to my knitting next time.
The last time I used this pattern I made a chart for the spikes in section three. Each row of the chart is to be read from left to right.
Second part of the blanket:
Because each section starts with a yo, I weaved in the end of my thread before beginning to knit each section.
On my first section I did yo’s all along both sides, as the pattern calls for. On section 2-4 I am picking up sts along the sides instead of doing yos, to avoid having to sow the pieces together later. So far it seems to be working.
Edit: It worked great - definitely sticking to this method.
