Notes

My design contribution for the Manitoba Fibre Festival collection - Flatlands.

Inspired by the open fields of Manitoba as we drive by in the summer - with golden wheat, canola, and abundant purple wild flowers - all capped by the glorious open prairie sky.

Also inspired by my love of designing for handspun yarns. I love designs that feature handspun - whether we spin it ourselves or indulge in a glorious skein. Pairing a handspun yarn with a commercial spun yarn stretches the yardage as well as provides a beautiful backdrop.

Handspun Note:
There are two different yarns pictured. The first yarn I spun was a wrapped singles. While a lovely yarn, I didn’t manage to spin it quite as thick as I wanted. When I sampled in the pattern, it was too thin in places. I spun up a second yarn as a 3-ply to ensure I would get the heavier weight I desired.
In some of the bottom photos you can see the singles yarn (with the agate slices, above it, and then next to the 3-ply above).
