New bed for Mr Finlay

Well, having made a Moses basket and saying I would never do it again because my fingers got so sore, I embarked on making Mr Finlay a new bed. This was made by trial and error rather than the pattern mentioned here. My friend Karen - usefully an accountant - helped me work out the pattern mathematically because it needed to grow in width and length, rather than just being an oval pattern. The first attempt ended up being too wide and thin so back to the drawing board.
I used T shirt yarn and made the base up to the full size of Mr Finlay’s current bed. However, I then added sides which were doubled over. As the bed is so large, the sides were not very stable and I decided to add some padding inserts. My husband came up with the idea of using pipe lagging which gave stability to the sides and provides a nice rounded edge. The bed takes up nearly the whole of the front of the Aga so ended up rather large. Mr Finlay is not complaining though!
