The Fana-kofte is a traditional Norwegian sweater. Traditionally it was knit with a checkered section on the bottom of the body and sleeves and a drop shoulder set-in sleeve. I’m skipping the checkers and using a circular yoke. I’m knitting it without a pattern - traditional sweaters have the advantage of being easy to figure out. I’ll be using Elizabeth Zimmerman’s percentage system to calculate the amount of sleeve sts and the yoke decreases when I get to them.
Body:
CO 110 sts.
Work 2-by-2 ribbing for 13 rows
Cast on 7 steek sts, knit in pattern for 28-30 cm - 12 stripes. Put body aside
Sleeves:
CO 24 sts
Work 2-by-2 ribbing for 13 rows
Knit in the round, increasing 2 sts at the start of every stripe until you have 44 sts and 10 stripes
Put 8 sts on scrap yarn
Yoke:
On the body, k24, add sleeve, put 9 sts on scrap yarn, k45, add sleeve, put 9 sts on scrap yarn, k24. (To get the “lice” in the stripes to add up I had to hold an uneven number of sts on the sleeves and the body.) - 165 sts
Work 1 stripe….
And then I stopped taking notes. Probably finished it sometime in spring/summer 2017, but didn’t get around to putting in buttons and snapping a picture until December 2019. Realized I had bought one too few buttons, so the top buttonhole is missing a button. I figure I can always put in a different button later and pretend it was always meant to be different. For now it’s going in my hope chest.
