I inherited this yarn from a friend of my grandmother who was moving house, and it’s been lying around for a year while I waited to find it inspiring. I was originally planning it as a sweater, but I decided against it as I wasn’t warming to the colors. I added some blue and pink yarn that I impulse bought in Latvia a few years ago that has been withering away in my stash.
I fiddled a lot with this, making and remaking different squares and calculating yardage in excel, to find a pattern and combination that would best utilize all my yarn. I’m making 17 different squares so I can lay them out in a consistent, diagonal pattern. Making a total of 99 squares.
Started out with:
- 100 grams dark purple (colorway 47)
- 100 grams dark heather (Colorway 49)
- 100 grams dark blue (Sia)
- 50 grams light heather (colorway 50)
- 50 grams bright pink/purple (colorway 51)
- 400 grams grey (colorway 3)
Used this tutorial to jog my memory, but it all came back very quickly.
Progress:
June 20th: Finally landed on a combination that would work
June 24th: 35 squares
June 30th: 61 squares
July 8th: 79 squares
July 21st: 99 squares, of which 72 have their ends woven in. Just realized I will need more than the 400 grams of grey that I have to crochet everything together. Bummer!!
July 23rd: Finished weaving in ends. Started crocheting together squares, using a strategy I unvented to reduce the amout of ends to weave in at the end (tutorial will follow). I’m surprised at how quickly it’s going, and I am regreting not bringing all my squares with me on the week long trip I am on.
