I hate knitting from written instructions, so I started this project by creating charts. The charts can be found here - I cannot guarantee that it is free of mistakes, as I made them just for my own use, but I did fix any mistakes I found as I was knitting (last updated Jan 2, 2021).
I’ve been looking for a picture to hang on my bedroom wall, and when I couldn’t find any I liked I decided to knit my own wall hanging. Knitting on larger needles than the pattern calls for to get the right size. I mounted the doily on a 90 cm diameter frame with fishing wires. It was the perfect size when I stretched it a little. I decided to stretch the edges into spikes instead of leaving it perfectly circular, for visual interest.
My sibling thinks the finished product looks like a dream catcher, which I hadn’t thought about, but it felt fitting since it will be hanging over my bed. It will be hanging on the wall eventually, but I haven’t had time to hang it yet, so it is just resting on my headboard for now.
I cast on with 2.5 mm DPNs, and knit the first chart before switching to 3 mm circulars. Starting out with 4 skeins, which was way too much. I almost managed to finish with one skein, but needed to crack open a second skein for the cast of. Will need to figure out what to do with almost 3 whole skeins left over (edit: decided on a baby blanket).
This was a quick knit, because I had time off and was very excited to finish it. Also, I sometimes struggle with very complicated lace, but this was very manageable, and I found the knitting easy to read, which meant I didn’t have to count and think too much. Very, very happy with the result.
